🟪 Chilly temps Sunday, Monday morning to give way to a big warmup (KVUE)
We're now tracking the chilliest day for perhaps the foreseeable future as a brisk north wind starts your Sunday. "Feels-like" temperatures got down to the low to mid-30s. Highs on Sunday afternoon, which is the third day of the South By Southwest festival, will only be in the upper 50s to near 60.
Still, it's the only really cool day for perhaps the next several months, save for Monday morning, where lows will be in the mid-40s again. That's because we're tracking a nice southerly flow that'll allow for a good warmup on Monday afternoon. We will get to the 70s with sunnier skies… 🟣 FULL STORY LINK
🟪 Suburban cities, developers eye office space but high-rise downtowns outside Austin still years away (Austin Business Journal)
In 2018, when MA Partners LLC was starting construction on the 35-acre Hutto Co-Op District, partner Bob Wunsch said they decided the project would be phased out based on tenant demand.
A year earlier, the Carrollton-based developer entered into an agreement with the city of Hutto to turn the former agricultural site into a vibrant mixed-use district adjacent to their historic downtown.
They started with a new City Hall and library, along with other public spaces. They then moved on to a wealth of retail sites that are now home to the likes of Southside Market, Top Notch Burgers and Jack Allen's Kitchen. Visitors can now park in a new six-story garage.
While future phases are set to include more retail, multifamily elements, entertainment options and hotels, the developers pivoted to another use early in the build-out: they broke ground about a year ago on a four-story, 68,000-square-foot office building with ground-floor retail after they were approached by an unidentified Fortune 500 tenant… 🟣 FULL STORY LINK
🟪 Texas A&M Board of Regents names Glenn Hegar as university system’s next leader (Texas Tribune)
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar will be the next chancellor of the Texas A&M University System, overseeing 11 universities that educate more than 157,000 students and eight state agencies, including the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
The Board of Regents selected Hegar on Friday to succeed Chancellor John Sharp, who has held the job since 2011 and is slated to retire in June. The vote was unanimous. Hegar is inheriting the system’s reins at an inflection point as Republican leaders scrutinize what they see as progressive policies and curriculum in higher education. He’ll have to contend with continued accusations that public universities are violating the state’s ban on diversity, equity and inclusion policies, and navigate intensifying threats to academic freedom.
“The board is confident that Glenn Hegar is ready to usher in the next era of excellence at The Texas A&M University System,” Board Chair Bill Mahomes wrote in a statement issued after the vote. “Hegar grasps the unique breadth and depth of the System’s impact on every corner of Texas through its eight state agencies and 11 universities. We, as members of the Board of Regents, are eager to see what he will accomplish.”… 🟣 FULL STORY LINK
🟪 Trump dismisses concerns over back-and-forth levies, says 'tariffs could go up' (NPR)
President Trump defended his administration's economic policy after he imposed tariffs on Mexico and Canada last week and then rolled some of those levies back, causing what critics say is uncertainty for businesses and the broader economy. During an interview with Fox News Channel's Sunday Morning Futures, Trump dismissed concerns over his back-and-forth tariffs and said they "could go up."
Fox News' Maria Bartiromo asked Trump whether he expects a recession during his first year in office. The president couldn't say. "I hate to predict things like that," Trump said. "There is a period of transition, because what we're doing is very big. We're bringing wealth back to America. That's a big thing. And there are always periods of it takes a little time."… 🟣 FULL STORY LINK
