Austin reports its first local measles case since 2019 (KUT)

Austin Public Health has announced the first local case of measles in Travis County since 2019.

An unvaccinated infant was exposed to the virus while vacationing with family overseas, Austin Public Health Authority Dr. Desmar Walkes said at a news conference Friday. APH does not expect any additional exposures to measles from this case.

The infant's family members are all vaccinated and are isolating at home, she said. The case does not appear to be linked to the ongoing West Texas measles outbreak, which has affected more than 145 people so far, with 20 people hospitalized.

Delta plans to launch nonstop flight to Mexico from Austin airport (Austin Business Journal)

Delta Air Lines will offer nonstop service to Cancun, Mexico, from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport later this year — marking the airline's first international flight from the Texas capital in over a decade.

The Atlanta-based airline said the daily service will begin Dec. 20 and run through mid-April 2026. The flight will operate on Delta’s Airbus A320 aircraft, according to a Feb. 28 announcement.

Delta (NYSE: DAL) will also increase its service between Austin and Orlando to twice daily during the upcoming winter travel season, the airline said. Delta recently launched twice daily flights to New Orleans, and a new nonstop, daily service to Panama City, Florida, will begin in March.

Previously announced connections to San Francisco, Memphis, Indianapolis and Tampa and Jacksonville, Florida, are also expected to launch this year. The new routes will boost Delta's departures from the Austin airport by more than 35% year over year, according to the airline. In 2024, Delta carried over 3.3 million passengers, up 20% from the previous year, according to ABIA data… 🟣 FULL STORY LINK

During an appropriations subcommittee meeting, where state agencies present their financial requests for the next state budget, Rep. Brian Harrison, R-Midlothian, pressed TWDB officials, including Stepney and another Black official, Edna Jackson, on whether the agency’s hiring policies prioritized diversity over merit. 🟣 FULL STORY LINK
