➡️ Moderate snowfall anticipated in Austin on Monday and Tuesday (Austin American-Statesman)

As a polar vortex sweeps across much of the United States, a winter storm is expected to hit Central Texas on Monday evening, bringing moderate snowfall and sleet, according to local meteorologists.

Daytime highs in Austin will reach the upper 30s to low 40s on Monday before a snowstorm strikes Central Texas in the evening, continuing into Tuesday morning, according to Paul Yura, a National Weather Service meteorologist based in New Braunfels. He said one to two inches of snow and sleet are possible in the Austin area, with up to three inches possible further east, near La Grange.

From Monday to Thursday, wind chills will range in the teens and low 20s, making it feel much colder. Areas with higher elevation, like the Hill Country, will experience even colder temperatures and single digit wind chills.

A hard freeze will make temperatures even chillier Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, dropping into the high teens and low 20s. Wednesday's daytime high will reach into the low 40s. "We're not as unique as we might think we are when it comes to the problems," said Watson, "We're also not as unique when it comes to thinking we're the best there ever was."

Watson emphasized Austin's innovative approach to workforce development, pointing to the Austin Infrastructure Academy as a model for creating career pathways for residents without requiring a four-year degree.

Here in Austin, the funding has supplied millions toward improvements at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, the Barton Springs Road Bridge project and efforts to add caps on top of the soon-to-be-expanded Interstate 35.
